The modern workplace can be a challenging and stressful place and when combined by the advances in modern medical treatment meaning more people with serious health conditions are able to stay in work for longer.
This is beneficial to the individual and the employer, provided that any impact that their health can have on their ability to do their job, or any impact that their job may have on their health is recognised.
Many employees no longer have access to high quality occupational health advice through their employer, especially if they work for small or medium sized businesses. Health conditions if not properly recognised and addressed can lead to sickness absence and even loss of employment, in circumstances when timely and appropriate Occupational Medicine advice could prevent this scenario.
If you have a work related medical condition and have no access to Occupational Health through their employer then we offer the opportunity to access occupational health were otherwise they would have none.
For individuals who have no access to occupational health through their employer, or have seen occupational health through their employer but wish to have a second opinion.
We are able to offer a private service were you can ask your GP to refer you or self refer, to discuss the impact of your health conditions and your work.
What can you expect at the Consultation?
The consultant will discuss with you the impact that your health is having on your job and outline any changes to your job that could minimise the impact on your health.
Making you better able to undertake your job, including discussing with the implication of any Health and Safety laws or disability discrimination laws that may impact on your health condition and your job.
What happens after the Consultation?
After the consultation Dr Gardiner will write a report, leaving out any medical details, for your employer to outline any steps or changes they can undertake for your job to help you do it better.
Whilst these are recommendations which your employer can choose to disregard, employers generally will value any advice which helps to make employees safe, healthy and more productive. In addition it will outline any legal obligations that they may have in relation to your health and your job.
The report when written will be sent to you for you to review first and if you are content it will then be sent to your employer, with your express permission, and, with your permission a copy will be sent to your GP.
