Aviation medical examinations are regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) who approve individual doctors to undertake medical examinations of pilots, air traffic controllers and cabin crew in the UK.
Dr Dermot Gardiner is a Consultant Occupational Physician who completed additional training in aviation medicine completing the world renowned Post Graduate Diploma in Aerospace Medicine at Kings College London. He has previously worked for a large aviation employer and has had the good fortune to have spent 6 months working as a doctor on the only UK Search and Rescue Helicopter unit that had doctors working as part of the team.
He currently undertakes EASA Class 2 medicals which are required by pilots holding Private Pilots licences and LAPL medical examinations for pilots who hold a Light Aircraft Pilots Licence.
What can you expect at the Medical?
The medical will consist of a discussion about any health problems you may have followed
by a thorough medical examination and usually an ECG (simple heart rhythm tracing).
Additional tests may be required depending on the individual and the CAAs requirements.
